The OHS Lunchtime Volleyball Tournament has officially wrapped up, closing out three days of fun, competition, and school spirit before winter break. From February 11 to 13, teams faced off in fast-paced matchups, battling for a chance to be crowned champions.

This long-standing OHS tradition continues to grow, with more students eager to participate than ever. “We had great participation this year—so much that we even had to turn some teams away,” said Student Council President Simmone Segal and Treasurer Harshini Naraparaju. “There was a great crowd cheering on the teams during the first day of games.”

Each squad was made up of 4 to 6 players, with a co-ed requirement and at least one 9th or 10th grader per team—a format that encouraged a mix of students from different grades to team up and take on the competition.

"Our PE department does a great job of creating a fun, competitive environment during the volleyball unit, and everyone seems to really enjoy participating," said Ms. Torri Halaquist, OHS Physics teacher and Student Council advisor. "The bragging rights alone are enough to encourage teams to join!"

The championship match on Thursday was the final showdown, wrapping up the tournament with exciting plays and strong teamwork. “The tournament allows students to let loose and play with their friends instead of just who is in our PE classes,” added Segal and Naraparaju.

Want to hear more from the players themselves? The OHS Student Council interviewed participants and tournament winners on their Instagram (@OHSStudent_Council), capturing post-game reactions and celebrating the big moments.

With the tournament now in the books, it’s time for students to rest, recharge, and enjoy a well-earned winter break. See you after the break, Yellowjackets!!
