Mr. Walt Baskin

I am Walter Baskin, and I’ve been the principal of Valleyview Elementary School for 20 years. Before that, I worked as the high school associate principal and taught mathematics at the high school and community college levels. I hold an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and Statistics from SUNY-Oneonta, a Master’s Degree from Binghamton University, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies from SUNY-Cortland. I believe in the power of high expectations, which guide how I communicate with students, using the "Pygmalion Effect" to help them achieve more. My wife Kim, a kindergarten teacher, and I both grew up in Oneonta and have three children: Hannah, Samuel, and Sadie. I encourage open communication with parents and am dedicated to fostering an environment where students can excel.
